“Corruption is everywhere. Have a look around. Where can you not see any corruption? Nothing is pure anymore, not even the air. We are constantly being forced to choose the lesser of two evils, and some of us don't even question our choices. We are a lazy generation, and machines do the majority of the work for us. We no longer depend on the natural cycle of the seasons for our needs, instead we violate the cycle of life by requesting what we want whenever we want. The world is off balance, and we continue to push the tilt.
The root of the problem is at the top of the pyramid. That is where the corruption is most rampant. The decisions and delinquency of those at the top trickles down and effects those at the bottom - who get hit the hardest. This is the layer cake.
Inspired by a fantastic digital new age riddim by Dubmatix, I wrote this song to remind people of where they are, what they are doing; and especially to ask themselves if they are aware of what is going on. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't, so please just open up your eyes!”

At a time when music has come close enough to losing its soul, the independent music scene introduces Robert Maddrey. Inspired musically by this ever evolving world, his travels as a military brat contributed much to what he would later accomplish. This Philadelphia, PA born talent has lived and lead no less than a culture enriched life.
Robert Maddrey began his pursuit for music stardom in the year 1985. Though he did not take it seriously at that time, Robert's gift was first recognized in the church. Stationed in Hawaii, his father relocated the family. They resided there from 1968 to 1973. Singing on the church choir alongside of his brother would prove to create a platform for his future solo career. It wasn't until Robert personally met the infamous Jackson 5, that he began to see music as a possible serious endeavor. Even so, music remained a hobby. Robert continued to sing in the church choir, as well as his high school chorus and select ensemble.
Robert would soon find his way into an group called Black and Tan Ensemble. They sang, danced and performed stage plays. It wasn't until he purchased his first electric guitar that he wholeheartedly began to produce music. Robert eventually started playing the bass as well as the keyboards and various other instruments. Confident in his musicianship, he set out for greater opportunity.
Robert's first band gig was Black Atmosphere. He was given a dose of reality when they were booed off stage. While in the Army, he played in The Essence Band and The Eclipse Band. Both bands won several talent showcases at Fort Polk, LA. Eventually, Robert made the move to Columbus, Ohio. He naturally didn't skip a beat. He soon became a member of a duo named The Coup. Their all original material won them several showcases. The Coup also got some airplay once or twice. With all he had accomplished, learned and gained, Robert Maddrey had still not found his niche. His drive and desire to find his own personal sound.

The singer/songwriter of contemporary rhythm ‘n’ blues known as Robert Maddrey has released his latest official single, “Paint a Picture.” Like the rest of his growing repertoire, “Paint a Picture” has been proudly published again under the ThickerThanWater Productions independent record label without the direction or support of the corporate music industry.
A smooth, classy, and heartfelt R&B ballad riding with a mellow groove that will surely appeal to fans of any genre. “Paint a Picture” is the latest reason for fans, listeners, and even the music industry itself, to sit up and seriously take note of this budding and trending artist and producer on the horizon.
Asked to cite some of his main artistic influences, Robert Maddrey lists Ray Parker, Jr.,Frankie Beverly, Ron Isley, Al Green, Issac Hayes, and “the sound behind the Motown sound” the Funk Brothers,” calling them “the great sounds of our history.” His own tone on “Paint a Picture” is less dramatic than Al Green’s and more subtle than Isaac Hayes’, making for a style that is modern, non-derivative, and will surely stand the test of time.
Helping to produce the magic behind “Paint a Picture” is Robert Maddrey’s brother, Paul Maddrey, Jr. who is undeniably bringing unprecedented musicianship to the table. This chemistry of musicianship helps create their characteristic sound that is slowly bringing ThickerThanWater productions closer and closer to the music forefront.
Speaking of the themes of his newest single, Maddrey writes, “‘Paint a Picture’ as in painting a picture with music and song. Music is not just a sound but a feeling that you create. It’s a simple but important message of peace and a musical vision of hope for the world– just a ‘feel good’ song that any real music
lover can’t help but enjoy.”
The publication of his first prominent single, “Change,” came in February 2016, followed in May by “Never Forget”, which was published under the “FaithWalk Entertainment” umbrella. Paint A Picture’ is a great follow up release after ‘Change’ and ‘Never Forget.’ The three songs compliment each other as well as show the great versatility in musical style and genre.
“From the vocals to the instrumentals,” writes Maddrey of his single, “‘Paint A Picture,’ I believe this song is destined to bring real music and musicianship back to life and to the airwaves. This song is truly a musical vision of the way the world should be.
