Summer has become synonymous with festival season.

This weekend, music lovers will congregate on New York City's Randall's Island for the second-ever Panorama Music Festival, a three-day affair of music and food otherwise known as the Coachella of the East Coast. This year's lineup boasts Frank Ocean, Solange, A Tribe Called Quest, and—slightly less known but no less talented—British breakout artist Bishop Briggs, who was kind enough to curate a list of her favorite songs from the crop of talent, exclusively for InStyle.com.

"I'm going to be honest, putting together this playlist made me realize just how many shows I have to see at Panoroma this year," Briggs recently told InStyle.com. "There's such a wide variety of genres and amazing artists. I feel it's going to result in an undeniable electric energy throughout the weekend."

Following the death of Chester Bennington, Filipino heavy metal band Slapshockpaid their respects to the Linkin Park singer with a cover of the band’s debut single, "One Step Closer," at a recent concert.

"Let's celebrate Chester Bennington. I want everyone to jump," vocalist Jamir Garcia tells the crowd, just before the rest of the band joins in to perform the Hybrid Theory track.

Prior to their performance, Garcia opened up on Instagram about how much Bennington had "helped shape me and my band to what we are right now," writing, "It was truly inspiring to be able to meet him. He was such an important piece in my career. His voice is second to none it
carriers anger, pain and love. Rest in Paradise Chester."

The first track off of "Black Trash/White House" ends with this beautiful statement of truth: "I promise that I'm honest, and I promise I'm sincere, and I'm fucked up in the head and I am fat and I am queer, and I am poor and black and may even be ugly, but I'm here." There's a bit of Nikki Minaj in her multiple personality rapping style, used to full effect on songs like "Brown Recluse." This record concludes with "Paloma," an unexpectedly sweet, soft acoustic guitar ballad. Favorite track: Casa Blanca.

Absolutely my favorite group of songs from 2016. Black Trash/White House is an incredible album that bends genres and defies consistency. Guayaba holds it down for the many artists of color across this nation - by fusing life and art into a truly unique sound.

NYC-based artist Leandra McNair is the perfect meeting of influences with bits of Lauryn Hill, Janelle Monaé, classic Jazz greats and a touch of 90’s excellence.

Lynette Williams

Harlem-based singer-songwriter Lynette Williams provides the perfect escape for a rather weary Wednesday.

Lynette Williams debuts her 2nd EP Love Thee, Not Chaos. All songs were written, produced, and recorded by Lynette in her living room. This project is an homage and love story between technology and art. There is no autotune and every instrument on each track was played, sung, and recorded by her. The EP cover is a photo from Instagram that she took of herself with no photoshop. So there are imperfections amidst this project – it is not polished like her last EP. This one is stripped down, bare, and raw – a complete labor of love.

Shakespeare wrote in Othello, “Perdition catch my soul but I do love thee and when I love thee not, chaos is come again”. Inspired by the past three years, Love Thee, Not Chaos is comprised of Lynette’s experiences in love, heartache, and in saying good bye. Lynette also sings about her definition of savage – those who hide behind the guise of religion in order to do horrible acts of cruelty to one another. There is a chaos in the world one that enables genocides, racism, and police brutality and there is a disconnect between our inherent humanity and our innate connectedness to one another.

Arima Ederra

Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and visual artist Arima Ederra shares stunning visuals for an equally enchanting song in the music video for “In My Garden.” Ederra co-directed the video with Alan Barnett.

“The story is basically an ode to growth and the pursuit of happiness. Imagination has always set me free and I really wanted to show the whimsical garden I would see in my head too,” she tells The FADER. “I felt like Max from Where The Wild Things Are and wanted to paint the story of me in my garden, in the same light.”

Milwaukee-bred, Harlem-based singer and songwriter Polly A teams up with Raekwon for a remix of “The Brooklyn Sun.”
